The Complete Angler Team

Hi, I'm Malcolm and I have always loved the outdoors particularly when I am near any type of water.
I remember at an early age trying to catch cockabullies while staying at Westport with a bent pin and cotton provided by my mother and even though I caught little I had a determination to get what was in the water out onto the bank.
School holidays revolved around staying at my sister's place in Tauranga and days spent near the causeway at Otomoetai Tauranga catching herrings, spotties, garfish and kahawai. I was allowed out every day and would be given a pack lunch and fish to my hearts content. It felt like heaven
to me.
My brother Adrian was 9 years older than me and totally into fishing. He encouraged my Dad who had only fished with a pitchfork, to go trout fishing at Lake Daniels when I about 10 years old. Our lives changed forever from that trip. Dad got busted off by a hugh rainbow and caught
some others and that set him on fire! He then proceeded to buy all sorts of fishing gear and took every opportunity to go fishing with his boys.
This gave me some of the best fishing experiences of what was for me a really happy childhood. We camped out, had hair raising 4WD trips, froze our butts, got into photography and explored all over the place in the 1960's and 70's. It was great fun and as I got older and had a bit
more money I moved on to good gear and focussed in on fly fishing for trout and salmon fishing.
Next came University at Lincoln with all the streams around Lake Ellesmere (they flowed in those days) close by and the fanatical approach I had for fishing saw me spending too much time on the local water and not enough in lectures. Never mind I got the degree but made a career choice
involving fishing.
In 1982 I opened "The Complete Angler" with little money and a heap of enthusiasm and as the business grew I was able to support my fishing habit by running fly schools and employing enough staff to get out once or twice a week with the odd fishing week at Taupo or chasing game fish
in the tropics.
People have often asked me if I got sick of going fishing since I talked it all day and was involved in the industry, but for it only wound me up for the next trip which is always looked forward to with eager anticipation. I trust my passionate love of the sport will be felt as you
deal with The Complete Angler - the staff are chosen because it is in them.
We want you to have the very best outdoor/fishing experience possible and would love to help you with info, advice and great gear.
Hi, my name is Darian Shaheen and I am the store manager. I come from the United States and was born in Los Angeles. From there i travelled to Saudi Arabia and Switzerland where i lived for a couple of years before moving to Colorado. In Colorado i renewed my keen interest in the
outdoors. I was very involved in fly fishing, competitive snowboarding and camping/mountaineering.
I love being in Christchurch as I have access to the best natural environment in the world and can enjoy all of my favourite activites.
Come in and see us. We would enjoy the opportunity to help you get the most out of our fantastic backcountry.

Hi, my name is Nathan and I am responsible for keeping Trade Me, our websites and work computers running (and some of the employees' home computers!)
I'm born and bred in Christchurch and love living here as we have some of the best oudoors anywhere in the world. I work with a great bunch of guys (and girls) all of whom are more than happy to help with any of your questions.
We would love to see you in our store and hear some of your stories of your fishing trips so make sure you come in and see us.

I'm Chris Williams.
I spent the first 36 years of my life farming in South Canterbury and Southland, before moving to Christchurch and along with my wife, owning running a garden centre for 13 years. My parents were keen anglers so from an early age i developed a passion for fishing, trout fishing in
particular, although I also dabble in whitebaiting and salmon fishing.
For me just being in the outdoors is the ultimate. Catching a fish or two is just the icing on the cake. Since working at the Complete Angler my list of 'rivers to fish' has grown considerably!
I consider working in an outdoors shop the ideal job for a keen outdoorsman, helping others with their many enquiries and of course getting to handle and sell quality gear.

Hi. I'm Jason.
I taught myself how to fly fish just under ten years ago, and picked up a lot of bad habits. working here has helped rid me of a few of those, but it's always a learning process. I enjoy fishing lakes, and am always on the lookout for an unexplored tarn.
I've really gotten into salmon fishing recently, and its great to have the salmon back. This next season should be a good one!
Tight Lines!

Hi, my name is Kristina. I am in charge of Trade Me sales and look after website enquiries and orders. I also head up customer service area and I have the pleasure of answering all your emails.
I was born in Christchurch but grew up in the United States. I moved back to New Zealand 10 years ago and now consider it home... and the most beautiful country in the world! I love getting out in the great wide open and enjoying all this country has to offer.
Working for the Complete Angler has given me a whole new appreciation for fishing and I learn something new every day. If you ever have a question or need a product, I am only an email or phone call away... and always happy to help.

Hi I'm Adam. I do most of the photography and web 'stuff' for the Complete Angler.
I have been around the Complete Angler team for as long as i can remember. I have a passion for fishing, art, photography and I'm a bit of a nature nutta too! (most will agree the term 'nutta' fits!) I am also the Dad of on awesome wee boy 'Jack' who always makes me laugh (and sometimes
swear! ... under my breath of course)... No that very expensive fly rod isn't for chasing the cat with!!!
I have grown up around family camping trips down to the lakes etc and am looking forward to sharing the same experiences with my kids.
Working in this environment and this great group of people is simply awesome! I hope you enjoy this website and I'd like to ad a line from Billy Connolly ' Never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shows... by then who cares, he's a mile away and you've got his shoes!'
Don't know what this has to do with this 'staff profile' but anyway...... :)
